Helpful Exam Strategies – What to Do if More Than One Answer Seems Correct in Multiple Choice
It’s important to identify whether the question requires you to select a correct answer (right or wrong; true or false) or the best answer option (based on the scenario presented).
It’s important to select the answer to the question being asked, not just an answer that seems correct.
The answer option, especially compound sentences must be true/true or false/false, never true/false.
Answer options are based on course content
Multiple choice questions are not created to be deceptive or to trip you up. Multiple choice questions provide you the opportunity to test your understanding of course concepts. Pay close attention to every word of the answer option and question to identify the subtle differences.
If after your very best effort, you cannot choose between two alternatives, try looking at the question from a different perspective. For example, imagine you are the buyer/seller, the Brokerage, the salesperson within the question scenario. If you are like people, you will often “feel” that one of the answer options is the best selection. Trust this feeling. Research suggests that feelings are frequently accessible even when recall is poor. For example, we can still know how we feel about a person even when we can’t remember the person’s name!
By evaluating each option’s applicability, considering contextual factors, and trusting your intuitive feelings, you can confidently identify the correct answer option. This approach ensures that your decision is well-informed and aligned with the question’s intent.
